One More

One more from Michael Morris. Here some of his thoughts on Dark Lover, by Emily Leider.

  1. Again, I will never understand why Dark Lover is held up by forum admins and followers as Scripture. Leider plainly presents her opinion that Valentino had a love affair with Andre Daven and that Rambova also "experimented" with lesbianism. She uses Bret as a source. That should disqualify any author! Yet, no one has the stones to ask the Facebook Enablers why they continue to promote these lies from Dark Lover.

    1. Agreed! I think she pandered to them knowing exactly what would happen if she did not. I stand as prime example of that.

    2. Bret is recommending Dark Lover to readers. Seems he trying to suck up to people. People are wising up they are finding Affairs Valentino more interesting and it is encouraging that Evelyns book is receiving more attention.

    3. Thank you! As collector Bill Self told me, Dark Lover is "the same old thing". It carries forward the false narrative about Ullman, Alberto, Jean, the settlement of the estate, Mahoney, Rambova, etc. It is promoted by "them", i.e. Bret, because it is their narrative. Affairs Valentino in many ways challenges that narrative and with documentation. They have tried for a decade to silence Affairs Valentino and all of our hard work.

  2. DARK LOVER is still the benchmark for Valentino studies, IMHO. Well researched and written in a style that is accessible for both the casual reader as well as the most devoted of fans. When Leider cannot fully verify something, she makes no hesitation in stating so. The issue of Valentino's sexuality is also treated in a non-biased way without careless speculation.

    1. Wow have you read the book? It is biased towards the family version of events and contains many errors and missteps. Citing Bret's book and saying "bisexuality is always an option" is reckless speculation and innuendo. I disagree with your assessment after having researched Valentino for two decades of my life. Fan magazines are not the best sources.

    2. IMO it is only the "benchmark" because she handed the powers that be their "Rudy was no doubt bisexual" and with this they have promoted it non stop. It was also promoted heavily to bury Affairs Valentino because a great deal of what I included was not only missed by Leider but as Michael Morris pointed out, left out to gain favor with the family and collectors.

    3. Leider is no fan of Brett's work. On page 271 of the 1st edition, she in no uncertain terms takes his speculations on both Rudy and Natascha to task.
I have to confess that I have not read your studies. I am very interested. Are any of your books available in eBook form?

    4. Affairs Valentino is in audio format on our Youtube channel. But our books are books and represent many years of research and effort. Leider cited Bret and left Valentino's sexuality as innuendo and failed to include Michael Morris' book in the bibliography. Dark Lover is basically a rehash of My Private Diary which as Renato has discovered, is a highly fictionalized studio-generated promotional piece. We recently published a compendium of much of our research in "The Rudolph Valentino Case Files". Our main work is contained in that volume. Thank you for being interested in our work. That is encouraging.

    5. To the anonymous commenter , do not think that you will regret reading Affairs Valentino. The True Rudolph Valentino is worth reading as well. I highly recommend it.Both books are worth spending money on and do not listen to the critics, they are trying to steal from the Floris to make themselves look good. Spending two decades of one's life on a subject is more reliable I thunk.

    6. Lieder's presentation of Valentino's sexuality, as well as Rambova's, is nothing but speculation. I am really beginning to doubt if any of these Dark Lover cheerleaders have even read the book.

    7. Nor do I think they have read our books.

  3. Either Bret is the poster above who used the term "benchmark" in describing Dark Lover or he is stalking this blog because also used the same word in his transparent promotion of Lieder's book.

  4. On page 300, Lieder describes Valentino and Daven's trip to Florida as "a genuine love affair." And she also speculates that Rambova was jealous of their attachment.

    1. To the above comment I think it is Bret.

    2. No, I'm not Bret. The word "benchmark" is a common term. That's the stumbling block here. Someone who presents an alternate line of thought or wants to engage in dialogue ends up being the target of suspicion or derided. Sadly, I think that's why the gulf grows and "sides" are taken.

Lieder in DARK LOVER gives no importance to Bret's scandalmongering. In fact, she denounces it very strongly. In that at least, I think her scholarship and yours certainly have some common ground.

    3. p.s. I think the use of the phrase "genuine love affair" to describe Daven and Valentino's relationship is unfortunate. It actually trivializes what seems to have been a great love and the discovery of a beautiful friendship. Was the relationship expressed sexually? Who can say now 100 years out.

    4. Emily Leider's primary source material was fan magazine fluff. She did cite to them so this is not speculation. I am sorry if you feel derided but I think it was a response based on past conditions faced here. David Bret has made a habit of prowling on this blog under aliases. It is natural people think that. I posted and approved your comments which is something not done on the Leider cheerleader forums run by Terhune. He censors anything alternative to his approved party line. I have posted many of his comments where he has deleted any mention of our work. Your calling Leider's book a benchmark was met with protest and I think it is not those protesting who are taking a side. IMO there is no side to take when Leider and her supporters have spent the past decade shunning, defaming and trashing all of our work and documentation. It is question of them being incredibly mean and cruel and this is fact. That should never be an issue. Dialogue happened here and no one was deriding but disagreeing. Perhaps you could go back and read some of the evidence I have posted on this blog to prove how outrageous this situation is. The "gulf" does not grow... it has never narrowed for a moment because they continue to censor any mention of our work, and defame us with lies and death wishes. I do not think you understand the gravity of what is going on. I hope you can. I really do. But please respect that I publish your comments and respond as do others.

    5. Maybe you can check out my blog with the Daven documents. https://andredaven.blogspot.com/ It has been proven that Daven stole money from Valentino, Daven was Rambova's discovery and it all fizzled badly. I am sorry you seem to be unaware of a great deal of our discoveries and the reasons why "they" have worked so hard to silence us. Daven and Valentino were not lovers and Valentino was heterosexual. I believe Daven was also.

    6. On the same day you mentioned Dark Lover as being a benchmark, Bret posted the same. The commentator said either you are Bret or Bret is trolling this blog. So Bret is trolling the blog. No derision of you. A logical observation based on circumstance.

    7. Yes, thank you for posting my comments. I didn't start posting to create any hard feelings.
Also, thank you for directing me toward your YouTube channel with the entirety of AFFAIRS VALENTINO available in an audiobook format. It's very generous to make your work available in that way.
I now know what I'll be listening to during this wintertime!

    8. You are most welcome. Enjoy! I hope you realize we are good people who have been under extreme circumstances for a long time. We are not young and I will do all I can with the time I have left to right the wrong and have our voices be heard. It is wrong and cruel to defame and censor peoples work so ruthlessly. Thank you for commenting. Opinions always welcome.

    9. One last important point I want to make. You spoke about a "gulf widening" and the "sides". This is not an author's war, there are no sides and no widening gulf. It is two people, my dear husband Renato and I working for ten years publishing beautiful and documented books on Valentino who are being ruthlessly banished, our business wrongfully impeded by incredible cyber bullies acting in the name of Valentino. It is wrong, it is horrible to be victimized like this. There are no sides.

    10. The word benchmark was used in a post here at the same time Bret used it in one of his insane tweets. While, for the most part, I don't believe in conspiracies, I don't believe in coincidence, either. If you are not Bret, then he is doing his daily stalking of this blog and taking your words to foment his brand of trouble. This is how the little Kobold, an associate of TRT, operates. And disagreeing about Lieder's work in a civilized manner is what debate is all about. I am just thankful Ms. Zumaya allows free exchange on her blog and doesn't wield the heavy hand of censorship that is regularly played on FB forums. You will enjoy Ms. Zumaya's work. After Affairs Valentino, please go down the list of all her and Mr. Floris' books. There is some wonderful material in all of them!

  6. I believe bullies need to be put in their place and Bret is one of them.

  7. I LOVE Evelyn's newest book. It's so good. I hated to finish it because then it would be over with. She is a consummate researcher and presents facts as they are. Then she leaves it to the reader to put two and two together. It really took my breath away. I enjoyed Leider's book but there really is no comparison. Leider tells the same story we have always heard. Evelyn delves much deeper and backs up her ideas with facts, data, and documents. Because she bothered to do the hard work, she was able to present things in Rudy's life that had been covered up and would have stayed a secret if it had not been for her gumshoe detective work.
