Iconic

The beauty of Mineralava as defined by Rudolph and Natacha with Argentine orchestra. This photo sent to me some time ago from a very generous friend, who sent me so many photos over the years and who I refer to in my books as "the London Archivist". Thank you! I watermark my colorized images because if I don't I have learned that they can appear on Tracy Terhune's two Facebook groups, Mad About the Boy and We Never Forget... while they always forget to attribute my colorizing, etc. Copyrights on these original images have expired, so I say the important thing is to enjoy them, not hoard them.

    1. It is. I think its important for people to see the setting with the musicians.

  3. Were these local musicians or did they travel with the tour? I know Rudy Vallee stated in his biography that, while a student, he and fellow musicians backed up Valentino and Natacha when the tour stopped in Connecticut.

    1. I am sure they had a lot of back up on that long of a tour. But the basic musicians were on the train and traveled with them.

    2. George Ullman writes in his memoir on p. 21., "I forgot to mention that we had our own band of six musicians who traveled in a regular train to which our private car was attached."

  5. I can't believe I'm actually saying this. In this particular photo, the man holding the banjo actually stands out as being more attractive than Rudy! The picture is kind of at an odd angle in which he appears rather average looking. Natacha most certainly does shine! Needless to say, he is always glowing, but this is not my favorite photo. Even when Rudy takes a bad photo, he still looks good which is more than I can say for myself and most other people! Lol.

    1. I agree with 7:05. If you didn't know this was Valentino dancing with Rambova, you probably would believe it was someone else. I think it is just the angle and the way his head is turned, but it does not flatter him that much. Goes to show even the most photogenic people can take a clunker from time to time.
