A Mark Hasselriis Note

I share a few of Michael Morris' archival notes (below) from his phone interviews with Natacha Rambova's companion the last twenty years of her life, Mark Hasselriis. He describes Natacha Rambova's mother Muzzie (Winifred Hudnut) arriving in Cairo to visit her daughter Natacha, "in a limo and dressed like Queen Mother Mary". He also comments how Mrs. Hudnut was psychic and predicted Mussolini's death.

  1. Question for Evelyn Zumaya: what do you think was the nature of the relationship between Rambova and Hasselriis? Were they just friends or were they more involved emotionally?

    1. I think they were involved emotionally. In Beyond Valentino, Michael included more about that while they were in Egypt. They fought, made up, she cried, etc. hardly platonic but difficult to say. In one quote he refers to staying behind at home with "their dogs". The age difference would have been a real issue whether they ever went public with it or not. He said he "worshipped her" which was not the best kind of love. After her death he pretty much spent the rest of his life as her disciple. And in the room where she died she had one personal object: a tile Mark painted for her of the Egyptian god Anubis.

  2. I am glad to say that I have read both books on Natacha, "Madam Valentino" and "Beyond Valentino" and I've got this feeling about this extraordinary woman and her life of "The other dimension", spiritual or "spiritistic", just like Rudy. I know they were both involved în "spiritism", psychics, etc and it seems like it did influenced their life and decisions.

    1. Comment 8:36 - please read Astral Affairs Rambova by Ms. Zumaya. It digs a little deeper into Rambova's experiences with spiritualism.
